About us: Our History

In a counseling career spanning 20 years, author and teacher Martin Frankena has shared the life-changing power of Christ’s redemption with individuals and churches in America, Canada, South America, and Europe.

In 2002, Martin Frankena Ministries (MFM) was founded to further the Lord’s mandate of releasing people into freedom from bondages to experience greater wholeness and fulfillment in life. A major focus of the ministry is healing from generational issues.

Born in Holland, Martin was raised in Brazil and lived in Canada for 40 years. With a Masters in pastoral counseling, Martin has served on the pastoral staff of the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, and as Assistant Director with Ellel Ministries.

Martin and his wife Cindy work together in counseling to help individuals and couples achieve personal transformation. Additionally, Martin holds schools of ministry throughout the year in Maryland and California, and travels extensively to share in churches and conferences. Martin’s “Encounter” curriculum is being implemented in churches and retreats throughout North America for inner healing ministry.

Martin and Cindy are members of Cornerstone Fellowship in Frederick, MD. They currently reside in Williamsport, MD, and are the proud parents of three grown children.

Thirty three years ago, in the wonders and the labors of ministry in "The Jesus Movement", we saw hundreds and hundreds of folk--students to seniors--experience the love of Jesus. Those years shaped us in ministry, and when that season of harvest passed, we were left with a sense of longing for more. More of those days of harvest. More insight into partnering with Jesus in the healing of broken lives. More of His freedom for captives. More intimacy with Him.

And "more" has come. Martin Frankena's materials, particularly "Encounter," have given us a transferable model for inner healing and deliverance which was lacking in our backgrounds, lacking in our personal lives. As we have applied, then passed along Martin's insights, we have been privileged to experience, to observe, and to cheer for those who are walking in newness of life in the Spirit. With new freedoms have come new levels of intimacy with Jesus. We are deeply grateful to the Lord for sending along His servant, Martin Frankena.

We still have a longing for more, but now it is at a higher level, and about more important things of the Spirit.
